Math and Writing Center

no 2

The center provides free consultation services for undergraduate and graduate students to receive additional support outside of the classroom.  One-on-one consultation sessions will allow students to enhance their math and writing skills in a professional, friendly, and collaborative atmosphere.

To arrange a session:

You are welcome to schedule your appointment online or by calling the office at 060-61-27-57. Please refer to this short guide to book your appointment. If you still need help, visit us in room 202M.

You may also stop by and attempt to get a walk-in appointment without a reservation. However, we prefer booking appointments well in advance in order to guarantee your spot. Please note that consultants will not review any material for a take-home examination.

 HOURS

We are open:

Monday & Thursday
from 12:30pm-7:00pm

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
from 11:00am-5:00pm

Our goal is not only to help students with a particular math or writing assignment, but also to help them become more effective and confident learners.

Our trained consultants help students:

1) to gain insight into their problem solving and writing processes, thus identifying the most effective strategies for learning,

2) to practice their math and writing skills during one-on-one consultations designed to cater to their learning styles and needs.

Math appointments can be scheduled to review any math-related material, study a theory, or solve problems with the consultants’ guidance.

Writing appointments can be scheduled at any point in the writing process: to brainstorm ideas, review a working draft for content and organizational issues, or look over a polished draft one last time.

One important fact to remember is that we work with students of all skill levels and special needs, including self-described “struggling” learners, successful undergraduate and graduate students, and students with learning disabilities. We work with this broad range of students because no matter how successful a learner is, all of them have blind spots to overcome to excel in their academic life.

Students are responsible for revising and making changes to their work after the session.  Please keep in mind that our consultants cannot be held accountable for any grades students receive on these assignments.  Also, students must be aware of exactly what is expected in their assignment to help our consultants avoid any potential misunderstandings.

All appointments will remain confidential unless a student gives permission to the consultant to contact the instructor and discuss the individual student’s work and any issues he/she encountered in the session.

Appointments can take up to 30 minutes; however, if you have special needs, you might ask for an hour-long appointment when scheduling.

Missing or cancellations of appointments

If you need to cancel your appointment, please be sure to call the Center 060-61-27-57 at least 2 hours in advance and we will reschedule your appointment over the phone.  Please note, for up to two scheduled consultation appointments missed, you will render your privilege of accessing support from the Math and Writing Center that semester.
